Introduction
The plasma physics research center (PPRC) is located inside the Islamic Azad University Poonak Campus (IAU-Poonak Campus is located in north west of the capital city Tehran on a 5000000 square meters plot of land). The Plasma Physics Research Center is built on 8000 square meters area, and consists of two buildings .
The research program of the center was inaugurated in 1994 in atomic-molecular physics (plasma, lasers & bio-photonics), solid state physics (surface analysis & thin layers , Semiconductors & Nano-technology) and fundamental particle physics .
More recently based on the current national projects the Center has initiated a number of collaborations with both national and international research centers in various fields.
The PPRC aim is to expand and further develop its research activities in science & technology. Therefore it has many on going research projects, in solid state physics as well as atomic and molecular physics .
The center is the most advanced of its kind in I. R. Iran in plasma physics and training, development & research in nuclear fusion are at the top of its agenda .
Research
In recent years the IAU has placed special emphasis on research. The Poonak Campus of the IAU has put together an invaluable set of research laboratories and looks to the further develop and expand its laboratories. The PPRC under the support of IAU has actively participated in a number of renowned international and national conferences which has resulted in publication of in number of internationally indexed articles. Currently the center has a number of ongoing national and international research project collaboration in progress. Recent statistics indicates an steady upward trend in research and development within the center .
Teaching
PPRC besides research activities, provides the required teaching as well as training & development in order to benefit from the skilled manpower in the different departments if the center .
Teaching and training is concentrated in the following fields:
Atomic physics, Condensed Matter physics, theoretical physics, Applied physics, Engineering plasma physics, Engineering laser physics, Engineering Condesed Matter Physics.
PPRC was assigned by the ministry of Science & Technology to offer engineering physics program in 2004. It is the first and the only center in the country to offer such a program. The center has enrolled more than 120 under graduate students in the program studying the topics of laser-optics, plasma physics & solid state physics.
