** The Islamic Azad University International Department, a turning point in the development of Chabahar free zone
The IAU Director General for International Affairs declared: “the role of the Chabahar International branch in the scientific development, and advancement of free zone is very significant regarding the requirements of the city, and region.”
Dr. Ebrahimi expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the management sessions of international branches, and appreciated the efforts of the IAU Sistan and Balouchestan Province, and Chabahar international branch. He said, “The IAU Chabahar international branch has, educational, and proper research facilities, and the equipments including libraries, educational departments, administrators, workshops, and laboratories.”
He mentioned that the most important reason for the growth, and development of the Chabahar international branch is the interaction and continuous support provided by the IAU Sistan and Balouchestan, and stated, “Through the support provided for the plans, programs and ideas of the IAU Chabahar international branch, we will witness very favorable growth, and development of this IAU branch in the near future”.
Dr. Ebrahimi Director General of the Islamic Azad University International Affairs Department presented a report regarding the IAU international network.
3 New Websites at the IAU’s International Network
According to Dr. Ebrahimi, the IAU international network consists of the overseas branches including: Afghanistan, Lebanon, Emirates, Oxford, and Russia, the university offices abroad, international branches in Iran, comprehensive supporting branches, and the electronic branch.
He pointed out to the IAU international network establishment, and added, “Providing the opportunity for the education of Iranian applicants, Iranians residents abroad, Persian speakers, and non-Iranians are the initial goals of launching this network.”
Dr. Ebrahimi also informed about the establishment of registration websites for non-Iranian applicants, Persian speakers enrollment, and professors database system.
The Director General of the Islamic Azad University International Affairs department by mentioning the number of non-Iranian students, said,” The number of IAU non-Iranian students reaches to 8 thousands and 123, and from this number, 6 thousands and 381 students inside Iran, and one thousand and 742 students are studying at the overseas branches.
He declared that the rate of registration of non-Iranian students in September 2016 compared to 2013, is more than 20 times, said,” our ultimate goal is the participation of 50 thousands students at the IAU international network.
Dr. Ebrahimi by referring to the increase of students at the IAU international branches, stated, “ At the IAU overseas branches, the registration of students in this year has increased to 60 percent comparing to the previous year. Also, the IAU offices in abroad include171 students at the MA, and Ph. D. levels, and the overseas branches also have 571 MA, and Ph.D. students.
The Director General of the Islamic Azad University International Affairs Department by referring to the enrollment of 4 thousands and 774 students at the 1st semester of 2016, said,” According to this statistics, the number of non-Iranian students is 858; Iranian foreign residents and Persian speakers are 106. Also, there are 171 staffs working at the foreign offices, and 571 staffs working at the overseas branches. Moreover; 3 thousands and 69 students currently studying at the IAU international branches, and these numbers has increased 56 percent compared to 2015.
Dr. Friedrich Stift, the honorable Austrian Ambassador in Iran, met and discussed with Dr. Hamid Mirzadeh, the President of the Islamic Azad University for the second time at the IAU.
Dr. Hamid Mirzadeh in this meeting welcomed the proposal of the Austrian Ambassador regarding the cooperation with the IAU, providing information regarding the current situation of this university.
Dr. Mirzadeh mentioned the role of the Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani in establishment of the IAU, and enumerated the items that formed the biggest attending university of the world.
He stated that the Islamic Azad University enrolls students from all scientific fields at all levels, and according to the ESI scientific database, the rank of the IAU to participate at the science production in the world is 162.
The IAU President also pointed out the activities of approximately 68 thousands of faculty members of the university, and focused that cooperation with the IAU is an opportunity for Iran and every international university.
Islamic Azad University expands international activities
“In addition to establishing 4 international branches, the IAU has launched three international collaboration offices in Italy, Germany, Russia, and one new branch in Oman in recently, and decided to expand its international activities,” Dr. Mirzadeh said.
By referring to the visit of the IAU delegation to Austria, discussing international cooperation between two countries, Dr. Mirzadeh expressed that the IAU is ready to establish an office in Austria.
He stated that at this stage, with the cooperation of the E- branch, one of the IAU priorities regarding the education of Iranians and Persian speakers’ residents in foreign countries fulfills.
“ Every university in Austria can cooperate with us in this network, and we welcome this opportunity, but it is necessary for us to have a central office at one of the universities in Austria”, Dr. Mirzadeh added.
“The Islamic Azad University is one of the important universities in Iran that has active programs in all parts of the country, respecting all provinces, and the Austrian government welcomes cooperating with the Islamic Azad University and establishment of a representative office in Austria,” Dr. Friedrich Stift pointed out.
“It is necessary that the Austrian ministry of science and higher education will issue the licenses for establishing the IAU office in Austria,” the ambassador said.
Dr. Friedrich Stift also mentioned the possibility of performing special cooperation in medical and paramedical fields with the IAU.
“We welcome collaboration with the Islamic Azad University,” he restated.
“In current economical MoU’s between Iran and Austria, the items of science and higher education are considered as significant factors,” Dr. Friedrich Stift declared.
“It is very beneficial for one thousand and six hundred Iranian students in Austria to educate in Persian language according to the IAU’s approach,” the ambassador said.
Dr. Hossein Ebrahimi Director General of the Islamic Azad University International Affairs after meeting with Dr. Salam Hassan Taha, Scientific and International deputy of the Higher Education Minister of Iraq and the accompanying delegates said,” visiting the Islamic Azad University is the origin of continuous cooperation between Iran and Iraq in scientific and academic sectors.”
Dr. Ebrahimi declared,” The IAU undertakes more than 50 percent of the higher education responsibilities in Iran.”
He continued, “Higher education expansion is one of the priorities of the IAU. This university has a good record of activities in research, establishment of the knowledge- Based companies, growth centers, and scientific and technological parks.”
He emphasized,” The Islamic Azad University International Affairs Office with its 5 overseas branches and other collaboration offices, has an active participation in the international arenas.”
Dr. Ebrahimi continued,” The Islamic Azad University is ready to have mutual cooperation in scientific and research scopes, student exchange and providing sabbatical leaves for the Iraqi professors at the IAU.”
The Director General stated that this university enjoys high rankings at the ISI research sector, and producing scientific articles.
Dr. Ebrahimi stated,” We provide the opportunities for Iraqi professors to cooperate with the IAU English and Arabic magazines. The IAU has 367 scientific- research magazines that can cooperate with the professors of the Iraqi universities.”
He requested the Iraq higher education delegation to visit the IAU branches.
Also, Director General of the Islamic Azad University International Affairs answered the Iraqi delegates’ questions regarding educational, research, and sport opportunities, the number of the IAU students and the process of students’ enrollments, the faculty member salaries, students’ tuition, etc at the IAU.
Dr. Salam Hassan Taha, Scientific and International deputy of the Higher Education Minister of Iraq in this meeting also said,” I am very astonished by Dr. Ebrahimi’s report on the facilities, capabilities and opportunities of the IAU.”
He stated,” The IAU is very unique, and by considering my numerous travels to the universities in different countries, I have not seen a similar university like the IAU.”
Iraqi official declared, “in this meeting, I have noticed that the facilities of the IAU is numerous, and this university has been added to the list of qualified Iraqi universities, and the opportunity for mutual collaboration between the Iraq higher education, and the IAU has been created.”
He finally said, “In this meeting it is determined to appoint delegates from the Iraq higher education and the IAU to commence and follow up more and more cooperation between these two academic and scientific organizations.”
Mirzadeh pointed to the fine relations between the countries and added the readiness of IAU to cooperate with Russian side in international academic and research fields.
He also mentioned to the agreement with the University of Synergy Russia and said: “Via this collaboration, the students from Synergy could virtually pursue their studies in Iran at IAU-Electronic Branch.”
The president of IAU expressed the University’s interest for further collaborative actions with Russian Congress Organization with in the beneficial framework of I. R. of Iran. He remined the recent spectacular successes of IAU in Germany RoboCup World Championship and said: "We can have cooperation with leading universities of Russia in the field of robotics."
Research and Academic Cooperation Panel with Islamic Azad University to be Held in Iran & Russia's Relations Economic Conference
The vice-president of the Russian Congress Organization expressed the organization’s mission to conduct a joint conference with the purpose of expanding mutual cooperation between the two countries. As proposed by the organization and approved by the IAU president, there will be an exclusive scientific and research collaboration panel for investigating further joint actions between IAU and Russian Universities.
